Warrap State coordinator, Kur Akol Malek has cleared the air and confirmed that Gen. Akol Koor Kuc, the newly appointed governor, is prepared for his assignment.
Kur’s statement follows reports on various social media platforms alleging that Gen. Akol had declined the position.
The Warrap state coordinator reiterated that the governor is ready to take over and fulfill his responsibilities.
Gen. Akol Koor Kuc was relieved from National Security Service and appointed as Warrap state governor, in a presidential decree on October 2, to replace Kuol Mour Mour.
In an interview, Coordinator Kur Akol Malek refuted the social media reports that claimed Gen. Akol had declined the position. He said that the state government and the coordination office in Juba are in active communication with Governor, Gen. Akol.
“The Warrap State coordination office in Juba has strongly denounced this false information and hereby notified the general public that H.E Gen. Akol Kuc is ready to take over the position of the governorship of Warrap state upon his return from abroad,” Kur said.
Coordinator Kur revealed that the state government is preparing to welcome Governor Akol to Juba.
He added the governor appreciated President Kiir and was ready to promote peace and stability in Warrap State.
“Governor Akol is in communication with Warrap state officials, including the coordination office in Juba. He is ready to come to Juba, and we shall soon receive the date for him to arrive,” Kur said.
Following Akol’s appointment, his predecessor Kuol Muor promised to cooperate with the new leadership.
He urge the new governor to prioritize the completion of the state secretariat construction.
Revenge attacks and intercommunal conflicts, stemming from various causes, continue to be significant source of instability in Warrap state, persisting despite multiple changes in top leadership, especially the governors.
