Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, has called on UNICEF to double support for children in the war-affected Sudan.
As conflict continues in neighbouring Sudan, Minister Goc expressed the need to double efforts in helping the affected children and elderly.
According to the statement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister appealed while briefing the UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Ted Chaiban, on the humanitarian situation in Sudan and the immediate humanitarian impacts Sudanese children and elderly went through.
“Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Goc was able to share concerns and made an appeal to UNICEF visiting delegation and other humanitarian agencies operating in South Sudan to continue offering humanitarian services to Sudanese displaced by political conflict in Sudan,” the statement partly read.
Goc urged the visiting team to consider the affected children in Sudan in the International Children Fund.
“The Hon. Minister used the meeting to encourage the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to consider the state of affairs in Sudan, particularly the situation children are in and education, as well as their welfare,” it read.
The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed that the South Sudan government would continue to make effort to bring lasting peace to the neighbouring Sudan.
According to the statement, Mr. Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, appreciated the government and people of South Sudan for welcoming the displaced people from conflict-affected Sudan.
“Mr. Ted thanked the South Sudan government for welcoming Sudanese nationals to live and allowing them to do some businesses in South Sudan without challenges,” he said.
He reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to helping people and the government of South Sudan to address challenges caused by conflicts in Sudan and humanitarian situations as a result of conflict.
