South Sudan U-20 falls to Burundi in AFCON qualifiers

South Sudan U-20 Junior Team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Burundi U-20 in their opening match of the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA Qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Christophe Ndayikengurukiye scored the lone goal for Burundi in the 8th minute, joining Uganda Hippos who also won their opening game against Ethiopia.

South Sudan’s next match is today against Ethiopia, while Uganda Hippos will face Burundi U-20. With this defeat, South Sudan must win their remaining two games or draw one and hope for favorable results from their opponents.

Yesterday, hosts Tanzania defeated Djibouti 1-0, and Sudan played against Rwanda.

Nine teams are participating in the tournament, with the top two teams qualifying to represent the CECAFA Zone at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations U-20 2025.
