Aweil Football Association mandate extended

South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has extended the mandate of the Aweil Local Football Association for an additional month and two weeks.

This decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting No.10/2024 of the SSFA Board of Directors held yesterday in Juba Stadium.

The extension was necessitated by logistical challenges that prevented the association and the electoral commission from conducting its general elections on the originally scheduled date of October 21, 2024.

In a statement released following the meeting, SSFA President Gen. Augustino Madout Parek explained that the extension would allow for the completion of necessary arrangements between the SSFA, Aweil Local Football Association, and the elections committee. The new election date will be announced at a later time.

The SSFA Board of Directors also extended the terms of office for all officials of the Aweil Local Football Association until November 30, 2024.

Victor Lawrence Lual, the association’s Secretary General, welcomed the decision, stating that it would allow for better planning and ensure the credibility of the election process.

The elections at the state local football associations are a precursor to the general elections for the SSFA President, Vice President and others, which are held every four years.
