Why CES politicians should stop seeking positions of power at the expense of innocent communities

By Khamis J. Kwaje Lubang

Communities in Central Equatoria State, including other regions on several occasions have often fallen victim or made to bear the consequences of individual politicians who resorted to using the communities negatively to climb up into positions of power to achieve their selfish gain.

This is a multifaceted concern that encompasses governance, social responsibility, and ethical leadership. I, therefore, reiterate its stoppage because of the below potential dangers:

Erosion of Trust: When politicians prioritize personal gain over community welfare, it undermines public trust in government institutions. Loss of trust can lead to apathy and disengagement among citizens, making it more difficult to achieve collective goals in the state or the region as a whole.

Exacerbation of Inequality: politicians who focus on climbing the power ladder rather than addressing the needs of the community, have led to increased inequality. Resources being misallocated, favouring elites, and leaving vulnerable populations without essential services has been one on the show within our society.

Conflict and Instability: Politicians who Pursued power at the expense of community interests have been the catalyst behind the social unrest and conflict in central Equatoria State and beyond. When basic needs are ignored, communities may feel marginalized, leading to tensions that apparently escalate into violence.

Neglect of Development Issues: Politicians who are consumed by selfish ambition have opted to overlook critical development issues, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. This neglect has hindered the long-term progress and prosperity of the community.

Lack of Representation: When politicians prioritize their selfish ambitions, they may fail to represent the voices and needs of the people they are supposed to serve. True representation involves listening to and advocating for community concerns and aspirations.

Ethical Responsibility: Politicians have an ethical obligation to serve their constituents. Therefore, putting personal ambitions over the welfare of innocent community members is a betrayal of that responsibility, leading to ethical breaches and a culture of corruption and embezzlement.

Short-term vs. Long-term Goals: Politicians who focus on their own power may only consider short-term gains, ignoring the sustainable development of the community.  Yet such Long-term planning and investment in community welfare are so crucial for lasting progress.

Divisiveness: Politicians who have ventured into power at the expense of the community have normally created divisions among different groups, underrated social cohesion, and created an environment of competition rather than collaboration.

Impact on Future Generations: Prioritizing personal or political ambitions can have negative consequences for future generations. Sustainable development and responsible leadership are essential for creating a better future for the youth in Central Equatoria State.

Community Empowerment: Genuine political leadership should focus on empowering communities, fostering dialogue, and creating platforms for citizen engagement. This ensures that development is inclusive, participatory, and reflective of the community’s needs.

As I end my write-up here, it is essential for politicians in Central Equatoria State not to exclude other states at their respective levels of responsibility to prioritize the needs of their communities over personal ambitions.  A need for responsible leadership, transparency, and ethical governance which is very critical for fostering a healthy, empowered, and thriving society full of good morals.
