Five arrested in Juba over counterfeit dollars

Police in Juba on Saturday, October 19, 2024, arrested five people with $1,500 counterfeit U.S. dollar  notes.

The suspects were apprehended at various locations, with the primary suspect captured in the Suk Sita residential area.

According to a weekly security report from Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson for the South Sudan National Police Service, police are continuing to pursue additional suspects linked to the counterfeiting operation.

The report indicates that four of the arrested suspects are South Sudanese, while one is of Ethiopian nationality. The identities of the other suspects have not yet been disclosed.

Col. Koang noted that a criminal case will be opened at the Northern Police Division once investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department at the General Headquarters are completed.

In a separate incident, police in Gumbo are investigating a shooting involving a 38-year-old boda boda rider who was injured by armed men at the Gumbo junction of Mapaw. The armed men made away with the motorcycle.

The rider is currently receiving treatment at Juba Teaching Hospital, and a criminal case has been initiated by the Eastern Division-Gumbo police.

Furthermore, a case of night robbery was reported at the Wau Town State Criminal Investigation Department in Western Bahr Al Gazal.

Thieves broke into the UNMISS compound at 2:00 AM on October 17, 2024. Police have apprehended four suspects and recovered several stolen items, including four computers, two sound systems, two iPhone 15 Pro Max devices, two microphones, and one Bluetooth earpiece.

A criminal case has been opened under sections 293/297/48 of the Penal Code Act 2008, and investigations are ongoing.
