South Sudanese secondary school students are set to tap into a new era of digital learning with the launch of the JUNUB ACADEMY application, provides students with access to educational resources.

JUNUB ACADEMY was launched on November 7, by a non-profit organization, Educare South Sudan allowing learners to access learning materials both online and offline, in a bid to complement the traditional classroom learning among other challenges in the education sector.

The Application contains learning materials including lessons for all subjects for Senior Four and Senior Two with Senior Three and Senior One lessons to be uploaded after the end of the academic year 2024.

Speaking to this outlet, Anyuon Madut, Executive Director for Educare South Sudan noted the significance of the Application saying, that it was developed to complement classroom learning and also help address other challenges faced by students.

“Its purpose is to complement the classroom learning because in South Sudan we have issues of classroom learning, issues of unqualified teachers, inadequate learning resources, inconsistency in teaching delivery due to delay of teachers’ salaries,” he said.

“When we see these problems, we decided to come up with the platform that the students will use to complement on what they got in the classroom,” said Madut.

The software has two capabilities, online and offline usage allowing the students to download the prerecorded lessons and store it within the available server space of the App.

For example, Madut said, “the 168 Physics lessons for the whole academic year can be uploaded in the App in form of video so that the learner gets any of the lessons he/she might have missed during classroom.”

The official clarified that the platform, JUNUB ACADEMY e-learning is not meant to replace or interfere with traditional classroom learning but will act as a supportive element to boost the nation’s education sector.
“This is actually to complement again the Free Education policy which will be the plan B for the challenges that the education sector is facing,” he said.

JUNUB ACADEMY was developed by Educare South Sudan with support from the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, University of Juba and Trinity Technology.
