President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Monday assented to the Financial and Appropriation Act, approving the 2025-2025 fiscal year budget.
The two Bills were presented to the President by the Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumba after their approval by Parliament.
Earlier this month, the national legislature approved the budget totalling 4.2 trillion South Sudan Pounds, with a 2.6 trillion deficit.
The budget prioritizes peace implementation, paying salary arrears for civil servants, boosting the agriculture sector, infrastructure, health, and education, humanitarian and among others.
After signing the budget, Michael Ayuen Johnson, Chairperson of the Specialized Committee on Finance and Planning in the national legislature, addressed the media.
He stated that the Ministry of Finance and Planning will be responsible for managing the release of funds to various government departments and agencies once the budget is enacted into law.
The approval of the budget comes at a time when civil servants have gone for nearly a year without salaries.
