Chief Administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA) has called on the residents to embrace peace and agriculture.
Tiob De Monyluak made the call while addressing a congregation at St. John Parish Church in Jamjang County, during special Christmas prayers, on Wednesday.
Tiob urged the residents to embark on peace and agriculture.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure peace prevails among the residents and with the neighbouring states.
“I urged everyone to embrace peace and forgiveness and engage in agriculture to improve food production and fight hunger,” he said.
Tiob called on the residents to utilize Christmas to forgive one another and stay in peace.
The chief added that the administrative area government and the national government continue with plans to encourage everybody to engage in food production.
He urged the resident in Jamjang to enroll children in schools, adding that every child has a right to learn.
Tiob emphasized that improving education in Ruweng is a key agenda for the government of the administrative area.
He also called on the people of Ruweng to promote peace and respect among the community members.
However, after assuming duties as Chief Administrator of Ruweng Administrative, Tiob vowed to maintain peace and boost agriculture during his meeting with President Salva Kiir.
The administrator also emphasized the ongoing projects, including boosting agriculture, which has increased the supply of food to the local markets.
He promised that his leadership would continue to focus on agriculture with the hope of fighting hunger.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement obtained from the Administrative Area Information Ministry, the chief has engaged in several ideas to boost agriculture.
“Ruweng Administrative Area set a target of 5,000 Feddan for food production, out of which 3,000 Feddan were ploughed, and so far, 1,000 Feddan were planted, and the planting continued,” the statement on presidential page partly read.
According to the statement, the project aimed at fighting food insecurity in the area.
Also, while meeting Senior Presidential Advisor Hon. Kuol Manyang Juuk, the administrator was advised to engage all communities in agriculture in order to fight hunger.
“On his part, Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk encouraged the Chief Administrator to consider agriculture as a fundamental channel to diversify the local economy and alleviate hunger,” the statement read.
Last year, President Salva Kiir urged citizens to prioritize agriculture to boost the nation’s economy.
Kiir made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the launch of the new harvest season in Luri County, west of Juba.
Despite having huge agricultural potential, only about 5% of South Sudan’s land is currently under cultivation.
However, the country boasts abundant water resources in the Nile basin, as well as plentiful forestry assets, including tens of thousands of hectares of teak and other high-value hardwoods available for sustainable harvesting.
