Right2grow (R2G) Consortium has conducted a two-day workshop that brought at least 30 young change-makers together to deliberate on public awareness techniques to improve nutrition and hygiene in families.
While malnutrition persists in the country, the youth engagement was aimed at equipping young people on how to create awareness in communities.
In an interview, Natalia Mbisimo Peace, Nutrition Project Associate at R2G, expressed the aim is to equip youth to help in the fight against malnutrition.
“This is engagement on doable nutrition practices and best wash practices, as we all know now in South Sudan the rate of malnutrition is very high, and also our wash aspect is deteriorating,” Natalia said.
She added that the young changemakers with great influence in society are trained and equipped in order to carry out awareness in the community.
“We are equipping the youth to ensure that they spread the best wash practices as well as proper nutrition in children as well as adults,” she said.
She called on the citizen to keep their environment clean through best practices in order to prevent the widespread of cholera.
On her part, Christina Mbordrundore expressed the need for youth to turn up and create awareness in communities in order to end malnutrition.
She expressed that the majority of the youth are involved in spreading health measures on keeping a healthy environment.
“It is our role as change makers to create health awareness among our citizens,” she said.
Meanwhile, Koninee Regina Johh, a science student at the university, emphasized the need for citizens to clean their homes in order to prevent the spread of cholera.
“Make sure you clean your home and drink clean water and follow other health measures so that we can prevent the spread of the cholera,” she said.
On his part, Bakole Hamid, South Sudan UN youth fellow, called on the youth in the country to spread messages aimed at protecting the people from diseases.
He added that the fight against cholera needs everyone’s efforts, adding that there is a need to keep homes and the environment clean.
