Custom Road vendors evicted

By No. 1 Citizen

Governor of Central Equatoria State Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, on Thursday inspected the eviction of vendors along Custom Market as a means of opening the road to ease traffic jams.

The Governor was flanked by the Mayor of Juba City Council along Custom Market where vendors encroached into the main roads causing traffic jams, disorganizing the roads and dumping rubbish along undesignated sites of the roads.

Speaking at the site of the visit, Governor Jadalla directed the vendors not to encroach again on the road or face demolition of their businesses.

He gave stern directives to the leadership of Juba City Council to ensure the directives of keeping the vendors off the road are implemented and conduct a routine collection of waste in the market in order to keep the road clean.

The Governor also stressed the need for the public to respect public spaces and should only occupy areas designated to them and called on those occupying public spaces to vacate them.

“We need this road to be opened because if you realize now, after the eviction the road traffic is flowing easily. From now onwards we will put forces to keep order and even the waste that is being dumped on the road we will stop it from now onwards,” said Governor Jadalla.

“This city is the image of the Country and it must be kept in standard that reflects a city. The Mayor and his deputies should not stay in the office only but must make sure that all roads are clean,” added the Governor.

On his part, H.W. Johnson Swaka the Mayor of Juba City Council urged the traders at the roadside to only sell their goods at places allocated for them in the market.

He added that Juba City Council leadership will carry out eviction of vendors at roadsides in other places within Juba.

“As people were in the Christmas season they (vendors) all came at the roadside and blocked the road. Now that the Christmas season is over, we are here removing them from the roadside. I want to tell our organized forces to also help us in monitoring and keeping the roads clean,” said H.W. Swaka.
