Traffic police in Tonj South County, Warrap State, have detained two drivers between Wednesday and Thursday, following accusations of causing accidents and damaging a shop.

The first incident, occurred when a driver of a heavy truck loaded with goods, en route to Aweil via Wau from Juba, attempted to reverse in the main market of Tonj South County. The driver lost control and crashed into a shop, injuring a woman who was seated nearby.

In the second incident, a passenger fell off a heavily loaded truck traveling on the Juba-Wau-Aweil road.

The two separate accidents occurred simultaneously between Wednesday and Thursday last week, according to traffic police in Tonj South County.

“The first incident occurred on Wednesday, January 8. The driver came from Juba with a heavily loaded truck and attempted to reverse at the town market but lost control, crashing into the shop and injuring a woman nearby,” said 1st Lt. Kuel Ayii, Tonj South County’s traffic officer, during a phone interview.

Kuel stated that they apprehended the first suspect, identified as 25-year-old Makur Makur, and immediately coordinated with health authorities to transport the injured woman, identified as 40-year-old Ayada Mathiang, to Wau for further treatment.

Ayii also described the second incident that occurred on Thursday at Maduol Market in Tonj South County, where a passenger fell off a vehicle after a Land Cruiser collided with a truck on the way to Wau.

“The Arab businessman, identified as Abdullah Ramadhan, aged 50, suffered a broken arm and head injuries as he was also heading to Wau, in Western Bahr El Ghazal State,” Ayii reported.

The officer attributed both incidents to poor driving. He noted that the victims are currently awaiting recovery, and the appropriate legal procedures will follow.
