Lakes State Civil Society Organization Network has condemned the recent incident in Wad Madeni, which led to the killing of innocent South Sudanese civilians.
Angelina Adhel Malual, the Chairperson of the Lakes State Civil Society Organization Network, stated that the actions of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) represent a serious violation of human rights for refugees and could jeopardize the bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
“We are deeply concerned about the violent protests that have erupted in other states across South Sudan, resulting in significant property loss. Therefore, we strongly condemn these actions,” she emphasized.
Malual acknowledged the efforts of the Lakes State government and its security forces in their commitment to maintaining security and protecting the lives and properties of Sudanese citizens residing in Rumbek and other towns within Lakes State.
She also expressed gratitude to the general public of Lakes State for their calm demeanor and spirit of unity, as well as their respect for human rights and dignity, which contribute to the safety of everyone in the community.
Moreover, the Civil Society Network of Lakes State commends the stance of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his firm support of peace and unity between South Sudan and Sudan.
In his address to all South Sudanese, he urged everyone to remain calm and to protect the lives and properties of Sudanese citizens across South Sudan.
Malual called upon the international community and the UN Security Council to stand in solidarity with the victims and to demand justice, accountability, and compensation from the Sudanese government.
“We continue to urge the general public to strive for peaceful coexistence with our Sudanese brothers and sisters and to refrain from violence and discrimination against foreign nationals living in Lakes State and throughout South Sudan as a whole,” she said.
