Northern Bahr el Ghazal University receives textbooks

By Hou Akot Hou

Northern Bahr el Ghazal University has received over 250 textbooks as part of government’s commitment to make the institution operational.

The books, handed over by the state governor, Simon Ober Mawut, last Friday were delivered to Mathiang campus, where the new university will be located.

“We have provided these books to inspire those eager to further their education. The governor aims to assure the public that the government is committed to delivering promised services, including establishing the university here,” said Gabrile Deng Yel, the newly appointed Information Minister, during a press briefing last week.

Deng noted that the university administrators received the books with gratitude, despite some individuals holding misconceptions about the university’s future.

“Our goal is to bring the university closer to the people so that our learners can access knowledge right here, without having to travel far,” he urged.

Residents of Aweil expressed excitement, stating they would be even more grateful if all faculties available in other universities were opened in the state.

“We would appreciate it if the university functions fully this year. The availability of books is crucial, as it was concerning that essential texts were lacking, hindering learners from pursuing their chosen careers,” said Simon Bol, a secondary school leaver who aspires to enroll in the university.

Many remain hopeful that the university will become operational, despite concerns over inadequate resources that should have been allocated earlier.

Some allege that fundraising money earmarked for the university has ended up in the pockets of unscrupulous politicians.
