Greater Pioneering Operating Company (GPOC) engineer who survived last month’s plane crash in Unity State oil field, has been discharged from Peace Hospital.
According to a close relative, Maker Emmanuel who survived in miraculous way, leaving many still in bewilderment, was discharge from a hospital in Juba, on Wednesday.
Engineer Emmanuel was among 21 passengers aboard a light air aircraft (5X-RHB) destined for Juba from Unity State Airstrip.
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 20 people, including two flight crew members.
Machot Amoum reported that Eng. Emmanuel is steadily recovering and receiving full support from his family and colleagues.
He noted that Eng. Emmanuel sustained a fractured arm and burns and scars across his body in the accident.
“It’s a miracle he’s alive,” Amoum said. “How he came out of that accident is a miracle. It was a very tragic accident. He has braces all over his body, though they are minor. The only major injury was the fractured upper arm, which was successfully treated by an orthopedic team here in Juba.”
Before his discharge, doctors conducted a thorough scan following the arm surgery. Medical reports indicate the operation was successful, but Eng. Emmanuel requires time to fully recover and will need regular check-ups.
Amoum expressed gratitude to GPOC and Light Air Company for their support during Eng. Emmanuel’s hospitalization, noting they covered his medical expenses, even though he has medical insurance.
Despite the trauma of the crash, Amoum said Eng. Emmanuel is now able to speak and interact freely. Before his discharge, he met with the plane crash investigation team for about an hour.
Amoum further added the family has decided to transfer Eng. Emmanuel abroad for specialized treatment, though the specific hospital and country were not disclosed.
“As a family, we have agreed that he will seek further medical attention outside the country and have enough rest to fully recover,” Amoum
