Fox bites five in Aweil South

By Hou Akot Hou

Five people were attacked and bitten by a fox earlier this week in Majak-goi village, Ajak Center payam, Aweil South County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, according to local authorities.

Garang Anyar Anyar, the payam deputy administrator, confirmed the incident, identifying the victims as Abuk Wol, 36; Ayak Yel, 25; Akot Akot, 35; Garang Garang, 5; and Athieng Anguei, 3, all residents of the same area.

Anyar explained that the fox attacked people as they left their homes to engage in economic activities, such as going to the market.

He noted that the difficult economic situation forces residents to leave their homes to earn a living, which may have created an opportunity for the fox.

“Life is hard, so I encourage people to leave behind able-bodied individuals to look after the young and elderly, so that wild animals cannot attack them,” Anyar urged.

The victims were taken to Aweil Civil Hospital for treatment.

Anyar highlighted the financial burden on the victims, noting that treatment costs 75,000 SSP, a significant sum for local residents.

He expressed concern about the community’s ability to afford the necessary medical care following the fox attacks.
