Police in Paliet Payam, Gogrial West County, Warrap State, have arrested two elderly men involved in a fight on Monday night that left a girl injured.
According to the police, the altercation erupted while the men were drinking in a local pub, during which a girl was accidentally injured by a spear.
The victim had intervened to stop her father from harming another man when she was stabbed.
The fight took place at Paliet Market around midnight.
“The fighting was tense as others were attempting to escalate it further but we intervened by detaining the two men and they are not in custody until the investigations are complete,” said Bona Bol Riing, the investigator in the area.
He urged people to follow the rule of law when conflicts arise.
In a separate incident, Riing reported that another suspect is detained in Akoc Payam, Twic County, accused of killing a small boy during a market fight over the weekend.
“The relatives of the deceased boy were so infuriated as they were attacking the group of the man who killed the deceased as he could not urinate till he passed away,” He lamented.
He stated that the situation is being managed as the case is referred to court.
Authorities implore residents to adhere to judicial procedures when conflicts arise, as heavy fines and verdicts imposed by judges can be burdensome for local people, especially during this challenging economic period.
