SSPM punches Abdelbagi from party leadership

By William Madouk

South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) has removed Hussien Abdelbagi Akol from being the acting deputy chairman.

Dr. Costello Garang Riiny, leader of group announced relegation of Abdelbagi on Thursday.

Few days after losing Vice president seat, Abdelbagi has again lost a second seat in SSPM party.

Abdelbagi and Costello have been at odds since the former announced removal of party chairman from the command of South Sudan Patriotic Movement.

However, Dr. Costello issued a contrary statement citing that he is still the boss, and that Hussien is suspended from the party pending investigation.

In a suspension order seen by this outlet, Costello stated that Abdelbagi was suspended for violating Article 38 (i, ii, viii, x, xi, and xv) of the party constitution, which states that members must follow party rules.

It also includes; Article 39 (iv, vi and vi) that ‘prohibits acts that undermine the party’s unity, integrity and objectives.’

“This order shall be cited as chairman’s order No. 01/2025 for the removal and dismissal of Mr. Hussien Abdelbagi Akol, as the Acting Deputy Chairman of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement,” Costello noted.

The SSPM boss also stated that Abdelbagi will be immediately and permanently removed from the party ranks and files, as well as from any position bearing the party’s name.

“Effective immediately, h ceases to hold any position, authority or membership rights within the SSPM. Any actions or representations made by him in the party’s name are null and void,” he added.

He said that the investigations showed that Abdelbagi intended to improperly fire the chairman.

Dr. Costello claims that former vice president organized an unapproved faction and used a nonexistent constitutional clause to assert control, including calling party meetings at his home.

“These actions constitute gross misconduct and a direct violation of the SSPM constitution, undermining the party’s unity, leadership and its role within the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and the revitalized peace agreement,” Dr. Costello stated.

However, No.1 Citizen newspaper could not easily access Hussien Abdelbagi Akol for comments on the matter.
