Life is just a show and we are all actors. There is completely no ultimate winner or there are depending on how they see it.
For many people, the pain of being stuck in this human body without any success or something to hope for is one of our many problems and it matters how you handle your own, that is what defines who you are.
For your own information, you are going to have a lot of reasons to hate everything. It could be that HR who didn’t call you for an interview with all the qualifications you have or maybe you are annoyed with president Kiir for making your life and those of a million others unlivable, miserable. The lecturer who didn’t give you the marks you worked for or a friend who borrowed your money and is no longer accessible.
There are still a number of things that will make you sad and there is a way this country makes you feel like you are not working hard, even when you are doing so much to put the broken pieces of your little life together. The next few years of your life are really going to be tough and more so when you are a student living in someone’s house for free.
Nobody is too good enough to accommodate you for years even if they are your uncles or aunties. They don’t tell you when things are bad but you can see in their eyes that they need your help.
Sometimes you would really want to outgrow your environment and maybe change your situation and that has to do with getting good grades in school to make your mother happy or whoever that you want to see smile.
The grades are not actually a sign that you will get a good job after graduation but it is something to keep you going with hope that everything will be well.
This is why one has to leave his or her family behind and travel far away where none of their family members has ever been to pursue a career and change their family narrative (blessings follow you if you are one).
There has never been a child who left South Sudan and never excelled, they even do better than their international friends because they know where they came from, building everything from nothing.
As you go through that journey, you must not forget that you are not competing with anyone and your brothers’ win is not your loss. We all have our unique battles and different journeys. Choose yours and dedicate your whole life to it and if it doesn’t work, remember that it is not the end of the road.
Accept the fact that you are not good at everything. Stop trying to be what you are not and above all, don’t compare your situation or life to others. It is the easiest way to lose in this game. People have their own luck and others have got good families. You can’t be them and they will never be you.
For example, as a child of a charcoal maker, you cannot compete with any child of president Kiir because you will lose by far; those kids have their lives simplified by the virtue of being president’s children.
Find something and spend your whole life chasing it. That is the purpose of life, to have something that you live for. Forget about what you do not have and go for that which will make your life a little easier, a skill or business.
You know there is one thing that we want, from tech billionaires, to politicians and then to the poorest at the bottom, it is just to be happy.
The happiness is in the process, the struggle and pain because there is no destination. It is in that chase, those hard days of college or in every beginning. Good or bad, enjoy every bit of it because you never know what tomorrow may bring.
