National Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, opened a workshop and seminar on the Pre-Verification of Conformity to Standards (CBCA) services, aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of imported goods in South Sudan.
The event, organized in by Jasmine Contracting Trade and Consulting Ltd. in partnership with Austria, brought together key stakeholders, including Mayen Deng Aliar, Chairperson of the Specialist Committee on Trade in the National Legislative Assembly, and Gloria Nyoka, Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards.
Minister Atong expressed her appreciation to Jasmine Contracting Trade and Consulting Ltd. and its Austrian partners for facilitating the workshop.
The minister emphasized more on the importance of consumer protection, particularly imported goods and highlighted South Sudan’s abundant non–renewable resources.
She highlighted South Sudan’s rich natural resources and the necessity of safeguarding the market from counterfeit and substandard products.
She also stressed that the need to protect the market from counterfeit goods entering the country is by adhering to rules and regulations of South Sudan National Bureau of standard.
She said the CBCA program aims to reduce the import of hazardous and substandard products, improve customs duty collection and ensure consumer and environmental protection.
The CBCA program is a critical step towards enhancing the quality of goods entering South Sudan, ensuring they meet established standards and safeguarding public health.
“The Ministry of Trade and Industry’s role is to oversee the work and provide assistance”, she echoed.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is ready to support the National Bureau of Standards in protecting goods entering South Sudan.
