NBG parliament goes on recess

By Hou Akot Hou

Northern Bahr el Ghazal state parliament has begun a three-month recess that is slated to end in early July, according to the parliamentarians.

The closure of the state’s legislative assembly follows a lengthy period in which they have been deliberating issues affecting local citizens.

Garang Kuol Mabior, the state parliament spokesperson, told journalists on Tuesday that they will return after consulting the public on the challenges they face.

“The parliamentarians are breaking for a three-month period. As the speaker, the right honorable Madam Achol William Amuoi addressed the MPs, urging them to return to their constituencies and hear from their constituents about the challenges they are encountering,” said Mabior.

“We aim to identify the most pressing matters, such as the food insecurity our people are experiencing, and when we return, we will advocate for solutions,” he lamented.

The spokesperson of the assembly added that the committees will remain behind to address any significant issues that unfolds.

Mabior urges the local population to attend sessions or motions whenever any deliberation is being tabled in the assembly, so they know how their MPs present their issues.

Some residents accuse the MPs of doing little to raise awareness about critical matters they face.
