Payam headquarters torched in Aweil West

By Hou Akot Hou

Unknown arsonists, in the early hours of Saturday, burned down Malek-Mayar payam’s premises.

Authorities in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, are searching for the suspects.

The incident occurred while the Payam officials were still at home, leaving them speechless and creating shockwaves in the community.

“The issue took people by surprise; many were still sleeping when it was realized that the Malek-Mayar payam had been burned. The suspect(s) have not been found,” said Chol Duang, the county’s director for information in Nyamlel.

“The security personnel have been dispatched to the scene, including police, security services, CID, and government officials, but no reports have been released yet,” Duang narrated.

Chol also revealed that the minister for parliamentary affairs visited the scene to assess the level of destruction, which he will report to the state government.

He urged people to cooperate with the investigating body to apprehend the suspects, stating they are doing everything in their power to bring the perpetrator to court.

Other residents blame the act on maladministration by local elites, including the registration of local people for relief items that are diverted by local government officials, including the chiefs.
