In a society where young people have accepted the challenge to be change-makers, sustainability is always certain.
Young people are an energetic group of people with the potential to bring change. Yes, a society may function, but if that function is not meaningful, it is as if it is not functional. A society is said to have a meaningful function when young people are the ones who take lead in change-making.
Change does not erupt like a volcano. It is something that is called for, and the very people to call for change are young people. With young people having fresh new ideas and strong voices calling for change, change is inexorable. Young people are a pearl of change.
Being referred to as the leaders of tomorrow, young people play a pivotal role in the transformation of a society. Through a number of ways, young people can possibly transform a society. Being the majority of people who have acquired formal education, young people can initiate innovative ideas that are of great importance to the elevation of society.
They can capacitate a society through entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, education, and project development and management. To make sure everyone in a society is independent, they should embark on capacity building on entrepreneurial and agricultural skills. Such skills can put the society on the safe side when a crisis arises. Young people can connect society with the rest of the world through technology and education.
They can achieve this by installing a digital system that connects members of society with the outside world. As young people diverge in search of education, they expose their society to the rest of the world, thus playing a role in making people aware of the existence of their society. Young people also play a role in using media to advocate against what they see is a burden on society, hence contributing to the welfare of society.
When a society finds out that it is being underrepresented, marginalized or denied human rights, young people take the lead in the advocacy for equal representation and the entitlement of all human rights to all the people in the society. Young people are whistle-blowers as they aspire to see a society changed. If a society is at war, it is, therefore, the sole responsibility of young people to indulge in peace-making and peaceful coexistence of the members of the society.
Young people act as a supporting pole to a society, whether such a society is prosperous or failing. This is not a duty, but it is an obligation. It is an obligation in the sense that everyone elsewhere in the world works for tomorrow. Today is always considered gone and so, people work for tomorrow. The point at which elderly and young people meet is that today is a juncture for the elderly people and the young ones.
At such a juncture, today, the elderly people move back while young people move forward. It is this moving forward of young people that gives them an obligation to create a healthier future in which young people can chase their dreams in good health.
The ultimate role of young people is to prepare a younger version of them to carry on the society. Young people never remain young forever. They outlive their youngness and become old. In order for a society to thrive year in, and year out, young people preserve the society’s heritage, natural resources, both renewable and non-renewable, and above all, put in place a good system of administration.
