An open letter to Mr. Donald Trump, President of the United States

Subject: A REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION OF VISA REVOCATION FOR SOUTH SUDANESE NATIONALS

Dear President Trump,

I hope this letter finds you well. It’s with profound pleasure and privilege that I am respectfully writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent decision by the US government under your able leadership to revoke the entry visas for South Sudanese individuals due to our government’s failure to accept back its deportees. Likewise, to also request your administration to kindly reconsider this decision.

Dear president, this measure (revocation) intended as a response to governmental actions ultimately punishes not the government of South Sudan but individuals, many of whom are already vulnerable and seeking refuge in a land that has long been known as a sanctuary for those fleeing hardship.

It is likewise crucially important to recognize the difference between the government’s policies and the individual circumstances. The South Sudanese people are fleeing from insecurity, violence, and instability in their homeland. The decision to revoke visas is likely to impact not only those who are in dire need of safety but also students, tourists, and others who seek better opportunities in the United States.

As a concerned citizen of South Sudan, I respectfully implore you to reconsider this decision. For many years, America has been a beacon of hope and refuge for individuals from all walks of life. The principles of compassion and sanctuary are what make the United States unique and admired worldwide. Upholding this tradition is essential, especially in this time of global crisis such as what’s happening in our country South Sudan.

As you read this letter, there’s a wide difference between the American-South Sudanese and those in the country here in terms of education, health and safety. This is because of the difference in the economy and service delivery in the US and South Sudan. We are a young country with a huge need for support. Therefore, I kindly ask your administrator, dear president, to embrace those who are really in your country and those who still seek to travel to the US by not restricting their entry visas. This is one way you would help South Sudan because those who will make it to the United States will learn and bring back that knowledge for the development of the young South Sudan and hence giving credit to the US government.

In the time of the civil war between South Sudan and the then government in Khartoum, the United States took many of our people through USAID, the lost boys who are citizens of the US. This great assistance shall never be forgotten and will remain in this history throughout the ages and so, dear President, I still urge your administration to consider the effect of the visa revocation on the individuals.

In light of these considerations, I respectfully urge your administration to take a closer look at the implications of the current visa policies affecting South Sudanese nationals.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

This letter is an individual’s request to the government of United. It doesn’t represent the position of the government of South Sudan.
