Police authorities in Jonglei State, Bor, have apprehended two suspects alleged to be involved in a girl’s elopement incident over the weekend.

Last week, one person was killed following a fight over a girl’s elopement in Bor.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, 1st Lt. James Akech, the spokesperson for the Police in Jonglei State, stated that the suspects will go for a court hearing once the necessary investigations are complete.

Mr. Akech added that the police, with the help of area chiefs, are still searching for more culprits who are on the run to be apprehended.

“As far as the incident is concerned, two people have already been arrested, and more are still being traced. You know the fight was between two communities and many injuries must have occurred. Those people will also be part of the investigation when they recover,” he said.

He also mentioned that four people who sustained injuries during the fight over the girl’s elopement are being hospitalized at Bor State Hospital.

“We have learned that the dowry for this girl had already been accessed, and what caused the fight will be established later in the investigation,” he explained.

James Akech stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court after the relevant investigations into the incident are completed.

He called on the residents of Bor to always approach social issues with care while respecting the rule of law.
