Raided cattle recovered in Duk County

By Peter Kuol Kuch

Police in Jonglei State have confirmed that an unspecified number of raided cattle were recovered by local youth on Saturday in Duk County.

According to the Police, cattle belonging to traders and local residents were raided on Friday last week at Ayueldit by suspected attackers.

“The moment the cattle were recovered, each cow returned to its home, and we couldn’t count how many were raided. Most of those cows were brought by traders from Yai and Pajuut,” stated 1st Lt. James Akech.

Mr. Akech said that the raided cattle were pursued by local youth, who later recovered them. He also noted that the specific number of cattle recovered has not been established.

“The cattle were recovered by the local youth; the suspects were repulsed, and the youth took back the cows. Currently, for the last 48 hours, the state is relatively calm, and no threats have been reported,” he added.

According to the Police, the suspected attackers are believed to have crossed over from the Pibor Administrative Area.

Last week, Pibor Chief Administrator Peter Guzulu met with Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok to discuss peace mechanisms in the region.

Efforts to reach Pibor Administrative Area authorities by this publication for comment on this story were unsuccessful.
