With the hope of cracking down on criminal activities as Christians celebrate the Easter season, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has laid out strong security plans, including the deployment of police forces.
Speaking to journalists on Friday during the deployment of police personnel to strategic areas, Gen. Abraham Manyuat Peter, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the public celebrates without worries.
He emphasized that the deployment of the police is intended to protect people and their property during the Easter celebrations, as many criminals take advantage of such times.
“During Easter, believers leave their houses to go to church and for celebrations, and thieves and criminals will use this opportunity to steal,” Manyuat said.
“They might want to use this opportunity to rob women and traders in their shops,” he added.
Manyuat reiterated that some police personnel would be deployed in areas suspected to be hotspots.
The Inspector General reiterated that the police would be deployed in most locations to ensure the protection of citizens and their property.
“We need to warn people against criminal activities and urge citizens and the public to cooperate with the police,” he added.
Manyuat urged the deployed police forces to establish good relationships with the public as they celebrate their Easter holidays.
“Work with civilians in a good way; do not be rude. This is the message I want to send to you,” he said.
The IGP appealed to the police officers to remain disciplined and take full responsibility for ensuring that the public is protected from all sorts of criminal activities.
He urged the youth and believers to cease violence and instead engage in meaningful activities during Easter.
However, Gen. Manyuat did not reveal the number of police deployed but stated that the number is sufficient to crack down on crimes during the Easter season.
Easter is one of the central holidays, or Holy Days, of Christianity. It honors the Resurrection of Jesus three days after His death by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Easter is the joyful conclusion to the Lenten season of devoted prayer, fasting, and penitence.
Recently, IGP, Gen. Abraham Manyuat, stated that one of his key priorities while in office is transforming the police force into a professional and decent law enforcement agency.
He outlined that police officers must operate effectively, respond promptly to incidents, and utilize available resources to maintain law and order.
Gen. Manyuat also said he plans to promote ethical conduct, discipline, and respect for human rights within the police force to foster public trust and improve community relations.
He stressed that police officers should enhance their legal understanding to ensure they apply laws correctly and uphold justice in their duties.
