Warrap State has received an additional 60 cartons of cholera vaccine to curb spread of the ongoing cholera outbreak.
John Akol Akol, the surveillance officer in Warrap State, stated on Thursday evening that the consignment would be distributed to counties particularly affected by the outbreak, namely Tonj North, Gogrial East, and Gogrial North.
He added that the distribution had already begun in Kuacjok town and would continue.
“We have received 60 cartons of cholera vaccines, and these will be distributed to all health centers. The distribution began today in Kuacjok. The issue is that the outbreak has been continuing,” said Mr. Akol.
Mr. Akol further explained that the supplies include testing agents, hygiene soap, water purification tablets, drugs, and the vaccines, all intended for the affected communities.
He revealed that the outbreak is particularly critical in Tonj North, Gogrial East, and Gogrial North counties, where many individuals remain hospitalized and are being monitored.
According to the surveillance officer, at least 61 people in Warrap State alone have died as a result of the outbreak, while over 100 patients have recovered.
Cholera is an acute infectious disease affecting humans and domestic animals. It is caused by the cholera bacterium and spreads through the ingestion of contaminated water or food, leading to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and dehydration.
