Vice President, minister reviews road infrastructure progress

Vice President, Benjamin Bol Mel yesterday convened with the Minister of Roads and Bridges, Simon Mijok Mijak, to conduct a strategic review of the nation’s ongoing road and bridge infrastructure projects.

The central focus of their discussion revolved around identifying and dismantling obstacles hindering the timely completion of crucial infrastructure initiatives.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of enhanced coordination among government agencies to accelerate progress and bolster national development through a robust infrastructure network.

A key highlight of the meeting was the Paloch-Mathiang-Pagak road project, a significant undertaking designed to improve connectivity across various regions of South Sudan.

Notably, this vital infrastructure development is being financed by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, underscoring cross-border collaboration for regional advancement.

Minister Mijok briefed the Vice President on his recent productive engagement with Ethiopian counterparts, acknowledging their commitment to expediting the project’s implementation.

He also brought to the Vice President’s attention other pressing challenges within the infrastructure sector requiring immediate consideration.

Vice President Bol commended the strengthened relationship between South Sudan and Ethiopia, recognizing it as an indispensable element in achieving national development objectives.

His Excellency further emphasized the pivotal role of infrastructure in unlocking South Sudan’s economic potential.

He highlighted how improved road networks facilitate greater access to markets, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities, while also forging stronger links with neighboring economies.

“Roads are not merely pathways; they are lifelines that generate opportunities, attract investment, and foster unity among our people,” the Vice President affirmed.

This meeting underscores the unwavering commitment of President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s government to deliver tangible development for the people of South Sudan by connecting regions, stimulating trade, and building a more cohesive nation.
