OCND condemns violence in Morobo County

By Jacob Onuha Nelson

One Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND) has strongly condemned the recent violence in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, which displaced more than 1,000 people.

This follows clashes between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army–in Opposition (SPLA-IO).

In a statement, OCND noted the severe impact on civilians stating that “the violence has led to widespread fear among the local community, causing families to abandon their residences and flee for safety.”

“Those fleeing include vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly, who have sought refuge at the Morobo County administrative headquarters. The displaced families worry about the scarcity of food, clean water, and basic necessities they were forced to leave behind during the clashes.”

OCND further urged humanitarian agencies and both the State and National governments to intervene swiftly by providing shelter, food assistance, and clean water for the affected population.

The organization called for the warring parties to adhere to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) to enhance security and reconciliation efforts, prevent further displacement, and promote peaceful coexistence among local communities.

“Action must be taken to prevent further loss of innocent lives and restore peace and security within the community. We appeal to the National Government and the Central Equatoria State Government to intervene,” it concluded.

One Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND) is a national, women-led, youth-focused organization registered with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC). It was founded in 2021 with its headquarters in Juba, South Sudan. The organizational work and program are not for profit but for the benefit of the community across South Sudan.
