Civil aviation boosts staff capacity

South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority has organized a five-day staff training, in a move aimed at enhancing safety and security within the sector.

The training seeks to ensure adherence to international standards and recommended practices for civil aviation security.

During the opening of the training, Mr. John Woja, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized the importance of adhering to international aviation laws that link safety, security, and facilitation.

“Today, this workshop is very important for you and for our country, so that we can improve security at Juba International Airport,” stated Mr. Woja.

He highlighted the significance of proper passenger handling, crew management, traveler processing, and cargo security.

“It is very important that we go through the modules of training so that you are equipped with the necessary skills.”

“As you go to the terminals, whether you work at the airside or any other department within the airport, you will fulfill your duties guided by rules and regulations that meet national standards,” he added.

Mr. Philip Kuch, the Director for Aviation Security, also addressed the trainees, appealing to their professionalism within the airport environment.

“The Aviation Authority has a significant responsibility tasked to us. It demands vigilance, integrity, and professionalism at the particular moment you are posted to any position within the Airport,” Mr. Kuch emphasized.

“This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge, the skills, and the mindset needed to perform these duties with excellence. You are tasked to be a professional, a skilled person who can see things that a less attentive person cannot.”

This training comes at a time the country continues to develop its infrastructure and strengthen its connections with the international community, ensuring robust aviation security measures is paramount.

Adherence to international standards set by organizations like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is essential for maintaining safe and efficient air travel.
