Lack of health workers impedes services in Yei River County.
Malish Gordon Faustino, an official working at the county health department calls on the government to provide more scholarship to students to study health science.
Malish, speaking during commemoration of International Day of Nurses and midwifery, noted that Yei hospital lacks medical workers.
According to Malish, the problem stemmed from scarcity of trained personnel in the country.
He, however, appreciated medical doctors for standing firm with patients in all the hospitals and medical facilities despite challenges.
Malish also applauded the local government for supporting medical facilities in the county.
He further urged the national government to increase budget for ministry of health, so as to provide allowances and motivate health workers.
Tomalu Florence, one of the registered nurses, applauded the administration of Yei civil hospital and the government for honouring Nurses and midwives.
She, however calls for authorities to address challenges that midwives and nurses face, especially, during delivery of mothers.
“The space is very small. No salaries on time and inadequate drugs including the need for more medical workers and facilities,” she outlined.
Chairperson of Yei Nurses and Midwifery Association, Emmanuel Adriga said that Nurses and Midwives are professionals handling critical aspect of human life.
The event that attracted over 500 participants, was marked under the theme, ” Midwives, Critical in every crisis”, ” Our nurses our future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”.
