Lobong dispels rumours of eminent attack

By Kei Emmanuel Duku

Eastern Equatorial State governor, Louis Lobong Lojore has assured residents of Enyif of safety and security.

The area plugged into panic following deployment of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), raising rumours of clashes with Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition.

Addressing the residents at a rally in Enyif, Torit Municipality, Lobong urged citizens to continue their daily activities and disregard unfounded fears.

“Enyif is a residential area within Torit Municipal Council, not a cantonment site for the SPLA-IO,” Lobong clarified.

Loyorol in Kapoeta East County, Lowereng in Kapoeta South County, Aswa in Magwi County, Nyara and Irube in Torit County are the designated SPLM-IO cantonment areas in the state.

He reiterated that the SSPDF deployment in Enyif was solely to provide security against gang elements, commonly known as “Niggers,” and other criminals that disrupt peace, within Torit Municipal Council.

The initial deployment led to panic and displacement among Enyif/Gumbo residents who feared clashes with armed opposition forces.

The situation was further complicated by subsequent killing of an SSPDF soldier by unidentified armed men, allegedly linked to the SPLM-IO.

Lobong warned that perpetrators of the soldier’s killing would be held accountable, emphasizing that the act was not representative of the entire SPLM-IO and that those responsible would face legal consequences.

He reiterated his appeal for residents to return home and continue their daily activities, dismissing rumors fueling fears of further insecurity.
