In this article, I want to delve deep into the animal world, in a simple and plain language like usual and paint a very vague picture or maybe shed some light on the sad realities of the wild, with much or little focus on two animals: crocodile and the honey badger.
These animals are some of nature’s bad guys but the honey badger is too stubborn and aggressive to be a good guy. The crocodile on the other hand is brutally dangerous and merciless in nature. He attacks and kills with malice. In 2010, in Nimule, a giant crocodile took my classmate and it was the last time his family ever saw him. And fifteen years later, he never returned home. Very unfortunate (RIP)
Crocodile’s prey has little or virtually no chance of survival when nature’s biggest predator catches them. If there have ever been any recorded incidences where a prey survived in the hands of this monster, we can say it is one of the world’s ever witnessed miracles.
Crocodiles have got enough time in the world but not a single second to let go of their prey. Even if they don’t have an appetite to eat, they can un-alive the target and allow it to go to waste, then to leave it because it would be one of his biggest regrets on his deathbed.
But despite all these ruthlessness, crocodiles are known for being emotionally fragile and their crying abilities.
They don’t cry for any reason like those social media people who adjust and sit in front of their cameras to cry for two minutes before they turn their cameras off. Like seriously, must you record yourself crying every single time you have an issue with your boyfriend or husband and by the way, why would you cry because of a man when there are millions of them out there?
The truth is, the public has no business knowing what is going on in your life and whether you are happy or not. Even if it was Benjamin Bol Mel who broke your heart, you can still lock yourself inside and cry when no one is watching but still there would be no need. With him or without him, you can still live a decent life, if you work hard because the best reason to cry after parting ways with someone is if that person has one of your kidneys.
No human is worth crying for in this life and if people want to go, let them go. Don’t stress over trivial things. They don’t really matter because life is almost 90 percent your adventure, your joys, your pain and everything in between. You don’t also need time to prepare to cry, unless you are doing a comedy. Tears come involuntarily and always from the deepest part of pain. Don’t fake tears. There is no pride in doing that and unfortunately, no trophy.
The crocodile cries for only one reason, his prey and he does so because he believes that they deserve to live longer but he too wants to live longer and he needs to eat to live that longer. So to pay tribute to his victims, he first cries for them before he devours them in big bites. He feels bad for them but he doesn’t have any choice because that is how nature has designed life. It is the strong that survives. The weak are doomed if they can’t push hard. Survival is hardship, betrayal and everything you know.
The crocodile is an equivalent of many people in our society, some of them politicians who rob and kill the poor with fake tears in their eyes, including those who stab others in the back for temporary gain. There are many of them around and you don’t need to have Harvard or Stanford degree to know if those people live in our community. There are many examples around.
Another animal that has also caught my attention is the honey badger. I think it is a very big mistake to be born as a badger or to carry that name. Badgers are really bad and they don’t care about your feelings or your opinion about them. As small creatures living in Africa’s dangerous Savannah, they have decided to make their habitat an insane one, including those of other animals. They rob the weak with impunity and steal from the strongest animals with extreme violence.
They don’t have friends and they raid beehives and attack lions, stealing lion’s cubs. Imagine that madness. It is almost like running away with the president Kiir’s daughter when you don’t have a chicken house. (Don’t try it in real life) I mean, don’t elope with her. You can only do that in Sherikat or in your village.
Sometimes these small animals are too blind to see a potential risk associated with attacking the lion and the lion king himself is always shocked by the stubbornness of these guys. If you give these guys a dictionary, they will not get the word “fear” there, even if they study it for years. They are criminals. Vicious rebels. They don’t fear God. The guys won’t give a damn whether you like them or not. They don’t care about your emotions. Your tears do not move them.
Honey badgers are not happy animals and they will never be. They have only one mission in the ecosystem or this life, to cause problems. Violence. They kidnap baby cheetahs and bite the balls of a cheetah. These little guys for one reason or another are capable of doing anything under the sun but they cannot find a single damn to give.
Africa’s Savannah as we all know is one of the cruelest places on earth where atrocities of nature are committed by animals. The lion hunts and kills. The weakest, mostly gazelles and zebras are always on the run, not for a marathon or any kind of sport. It is also not for exercise, animals don’t do exercise. They run to escape death, to save their lives and to avoid torture. Faced with the same existential threat, the badger fights back like his life depends on it. He is one of the few animals that never fears taking risks. Like the badger, it is your decision to fight back or give in. The bad news is that life is already complicated and it will never get better. You need to pay deaf ears to the noisy world and chase your dreams. Go…. Just go!
