Former Twic East commissioner dies

The authorities of Twic East County in Jonglei State have announced the passing of Former Twic East County Commissioner, Deng Mabeny Kuot. He died on Sunday in Juba.

According to officials, the late Deng Mabeny served in various capacities, including as Commissioner of Twic East County during the period of the defunct 32 states of South Sudan.

Speaking to this publication, Juach Arok Jauch, the current Commissioner of Twic East County, stated that Deng had been battling illness.

He was taken abroad for advanced medical treatment, including to India, before he passed away in Juba this week.

“He passed on yesterday [Sunday] at 7:30 PM local time, Juba, South Sudan,” Commissioner Juach said. “He was flown in to Juba from India in good condition before some complications arose that led to death.”

Commissioner Juach confirmed that the late commissioner had been battling liver cancer, triggered by prolonged Hepatitis.

He described the late Mabeny as a well-experienced and kind-hearted leader, stating that his untimely death has left a great void for the people of Twic East in particular, and Jonglei State at large.

“So far, Deng is one of the brilliant and instrumental leaders,” Commissioner Juach remarked. “He served in various roles, including during the time of the defunct 32 states and also within the framework of the revitalized peace agreement. He was a calm leader, and the people of Jonglei State have lost a great man.”

In an official statement, Juach, on behalf of the Twic East community, expressed his grief and profound sorrow for the loss of a great leader. He extended his condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the late Deng Mabeny Kuot.

Deng Mabeny is survived by his wife and three children.
