Police in Jonglei State in Bor have reported several instances of destruction caused by a series of heavy downpours this week.
The heavy rains that began on Sunday and continued into Tuesday brought significant damage to houses and fences.
Speaking to this publication, Police Spokesperson 1st Lt. James Akech in Jonglei State says several houses and fences have been damaged during the heavy rain.
He states that the rains were characterised by strong winds and lightning. Mr. Akech added that there were also reports of people sustaining injuries from lightning strikes.
“It came with a lot of destruction, most of the fences are destroyed and houses, some people also got injured. Now the water is a bit subsiding,” he added.
He notes that the rainwater has begun to subside following the heavy rainfall.
Bor town is flat land and typically floods with rainwater each year at the start of the rainy season; most homes are usually displaced by the rainwater every year.
