Four traders killed in Jonglei road ambush

At least four people have been confirmed dead in a road ambush along Makara-wuien road in Northern Jonglei over the weekend.

According to the acting governor of Jonglei State, a commercial vehicle was travelling from Bor town to Northern Jonglei before it came under ambush.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Simon Hoth, the acting governor of Jonglei State, states that all the commodities loaded in the vehicle have not been looted by the attackers.

“The people who perished are four, I heard all of them are adults- three are from Lou-Nuer and one from Twic, this is the information now because the people who survived the incident,” he said.

He says the vehicle and the few traders who survived the incident managed to return to the state headquarters in Bor.

Mr Hoth added that the incident is believed to be linked to the recent revenge violence that has caused significant casualties between the Hol and Ayuel communities in Jonglei State.

“We see that this incident must be associated with the recent clashes between Ayuel and Hol in Twic East and Duk respectively-because if the attackers were to come from Pibor, they would not have left the guns and the food items,” he said.

Last week, the Ayuel community of Twic East County engaged in communal violence with the Hol community of Duk in Jonglei State; more than 13 lives were lost and several others sustained serious injuries.
