Central Bank leaders and Telecom mobile money operators have agreed in a meeting to strengthen digital transactions to benefit users.
The team included MTN, Zain, MoMo, M-Gurus, and Digi Cash managers as well as National Communication Authority (NCA).
The meeting, held at the Bank of South Sudan headquarters was chaired by governor, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, alongside his 1st deputy, Samuel Yanga.
The main agenda was to discuss the integration of mobile money platforms with all commercial banks across the country.
In his address, governor Addis Ababa encouraged mobile money operators to raise awareness about digital transactions.
“There is no way carrying huge cash to say that you have money. It is also money if you have it in digital form,” Governor Addis Ababa stressed.
“We just need to ensure that all transactions in SSP are done digitally. So, it is a challenge to all of us to make our people understand the system and use it,” he added.
“Those involved in business should go digital. For example, boda boda drivers, public bus operators, and market businesspeople must accept this digital transformation,” the governor further stressed.
The managing directors of the mobile money operators include MoMo, Digi-Cash, and M-Gurus, as well as representatives from the National Communications Authority and Zain Network.
For their part, the mobile money operators expressed their commitment to facilitating smooth online transactions.
They also encouraged cooperation to increase public awareness of the importance of digital transactions.
“As we embrace this digital transformation, we aim to ensure that civil servants are paid online. Together, we will build trust within our population. We are committed to providing the necessary support as the government leads. We are happy to implement the regulations from the Bank,” a representative from Digi-Cash stated.
The meeting recommended forming a technical committee comprised of members from the Central Bank, mobile network operators, and mobile money operators to raise public awareness.
