Warrap State has received tractors from the national government and has pledged to intensify farming efforts to boost food production.
In April, the National Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security received 104 tractors, reportedly procured by the Ministry of Finance and Planning for distribution to all states.
These tractors are intended to assist farmers and cooperative members in enhancing food production across the country.
Upon receiving three tractors for Warrap State, Deng Madut Majok, the State Minister of Agriculture, committed to ensuring that the tractors are utilized effectively to increase food production.
“We thank the National government for the three tractors and we urge them to provide more; the tractors will help the farmers to boost food production”, he said. “We need government to Finance Agriculture in all the states so as to ensure food security”, he added.
The tractors are part of a larger consignment of 104 tractors recently procured by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Production under the leadership of Minister Hussein Abdelbagi.
He expressed appreciation to the national government for providing the tractors and urged further financial support for agriculture.
Although the number of tractors is limited, Minister Madut stated that the available tractors will be distributed to farmers while hoping for additional supplies in the future.
He expressed gratitude to the national government for its continued support, noting that the arrival of the tractors comes at a crucial time when farmers are preparing their fields for cultivation.
Farmers across the country have consistently raised concerns about ongoing conflicts, insufficient government support, particularly in pest control, access to fuel, and a lack of stable markets for their produce.
Last Month, the Economic Cluster approved SSP 62 billion to support farming activities ahead of the rainy season.
Following the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Lily Albino Akol, directed all state governors and chief administrators to allocate 250,000 hectares of land each for agricultural use.
Recently, President Salva Kiir Mayardit directed the newly appointed governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, to end communal violence and restore peace in the state.
Amb. Wek was appointed after Kiir relieved Lt. Gen. Magok Magok from his position due to a surge in communal violence that resulted in numerous fatalities.
The violence that erupted between May 28 and 29, 2025, in Tonj East County left 62 people dead, including 20 women, and injured 36 others.
The motives behind this deadly conflict between the Luacjang and Jalwau communities remain unclear.
In his remarks following the new governor’s appointment, President Kiir called on citizens to welcome Amb. Wek with open arms and hearts.
For his part, Governor Bol Wek Agoth pledged to prioritize peacebuilding, law enforcement, and the restoration of effective local governance.
He also urged “Warrap natives living in Juba to serve as ambassadors of peace for their conflict-ridden state.”
The president’s actions represent another effort by his administration to create new pathways for peace in Warrap, a region still struggling with the severe consequences of rampant violence and lawlessness.
