Community mobilizes funds to renovate damaged road

By Nakwam Rose

Apuk Community of Gogrial East County in Warrap state gathered on Saturday in Juba to brainstorm possible ways of renovating damaged Luonyaker-lietnhom road.

Professor Jok Madut Jok, chairing the meeting disclosed the Luonyaker-lietnhom road is severely damaged by heavy rains and is in critical state.

According to Madut, the damaged road hinders multiple and ineffective movements across and within the county for vital services such as seeking health care.

“This road has become a serious obstacle to everything from market deliveries to security issues, trade and health issues.” Professor Jok Madut Jok said.

The meeting centred on effects of the damaged road towards regional development and emphasized on the community to contribute funds for quick repair.

Prof. Madut presented a thoroughly detailed concise plan which gained him support from the community. He urged the community to cooperate to restore the road as it will take time for the government to do the needful.

“It looks like its going to take a long time before the government to repair this road, perhaps as a community, we should start on our own with whatever little we can do and put in our efforts financially and physically and hopefully down the line the government will take on.” Madut noted.

“We cannot just sit as a community and be affected by lack of road infrastructure. We have to make our own effects and initiative.” he continued

Chairperson of Apuk community in Juba, Yar Paul Kuol emphasized on the crucial role played by the road, noting the importance to begin the reconstruction earlier without relying on the government.

“It is very crucial, we have a hospital and we refer our patients to Wau and this is the only road they use so the road is very important. We want to start as a community; the MPs and commissioner will play their role in delivering the issue to the state government”. Yar explained.

Deputy chairperson of the community, Mou Ambrose Riiny also described the road as a sacrificial gateway to security, health and economic services, hence, labeling it extremely important to reconstruct.

“This road is very important because it is a security road that connects us with the neighboring communities in Mayom county in Unity state. It is also a means of bringing services to the people in terms of health and economic wise”. Riiny emphasized.
