A civil activist has called on all peace partners to support South Sudan in restoring the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
In a statement to the media, Ter Manyang, Executive Director of the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA), emphasized the need for collective intervention from peace partners to rescue the agreement.
Manyang urgently appealed to the African Union (AU), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the European Union (EU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the East African Community (EAC) to take decisive action in supporting South Sudan to fully restore and implement the peace agreement.
“The CPA is deeply concerned about the deteriorating political climate, marked by a lack of political tolerance and an absence of genuine political will, both essential for moving the country forward,” he stated.
He added that the current political stagnation leaves the people of South Sudan in a precarious situation with no clear way forward.
Manyang highlighted that the stagnation of the peace agreement, coupled with alarming humanitarian, economic, and governance challenges, necessitates the collective support of partners.
“We are stuck; the people of South Sudan are trapped in a cycle of uncertainty. This is dangerous for a nation struggling to meet the basic needs of its citizens. Without swift international support and pressure to fully implement the R-ARCSS, the situation could spiral out of control,” he warned.
He urged international and regional bodies to intensify their efforts in engaging South Sudanese stakeholders, mediating political disagreements, and ensuring that all parties are held accountable to their commitments under the peace agreement.
