Yei holds rural development training

In a strategic move to empower local communities and promote sustainability, Yei River County is holding a five-day training to boost rural development.

The training, opening from Monday 16rh June is hosted by the County Department of Planning in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Aiming at building community capacity to design and implement self-help projects, the training also strengthens their involvement in rural development programs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yei County commissioner, Emmanuel Taban Seme underscored the importance of community-driven development.

He said that such a training is crucial for fostering sustainable growth, improving livelihoods, and empowering local communities.

“It can enhance the capacity of individuals and communities to address challenges, utilize resources effectively, and contribute to overall development in rural areas,” Tete stressed.

The initiative is seen as part of a broader push by the county government to decentralize development efforts and equip locals with knowledge and tools to uplift their own communities.

Director of Planning in Yei River County, James Wani Banja, encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunity.

“I urge the participants to focus during the training sessions in order to transform their communities,” he said.

Regional Logo Project Officer for GIZ, Samuel Taban outlined the broader goals of the initiative.

He said the project has been carried out in six counties of South Sudan with touching intentions focusing on capacity building for local administration, civil society capacity building including rural development and rural council management.

The training brings together 26 participants, including youth, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, community leaders, faith-based organizations, and persons with disabilities.
