Warrap governor vows to support education despite challenges

By Yiep Joseph

The governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek, vowed to ensure improvement in the education sector despite prevailing security challenges.

Wek made the statement over the weekend during his visit to Makerdit Primary School in Tonj Town of Warrap State.

Makerdit Primary School is a historical school where some of the national liberators previously attended primary education.

While addressing learners, the governor vowed to ensure that necessary support is provided to schools.

He vowed that his administration remains committed to ensuring that all children go to school and bring change in the community.

The governor encouraged the learner to continue with their studies, adding that education remains important and can change the face of the community from violent to peaceful.

Wek reiterated Makerdit Primary School is among the historical schools, citing that the learners should have hope of a brighter future.

“I want you to prioritize your education, because 20 years from now, this school can produce other national leaders at the caliber of President Kiir,” Wek said.

The governor inspired the pupils to envision themselves as engineers, managers, sports magnates, and business titans.

He enlightened the pupils that Warrap State has abundant resources, and there is a need for qualified people to exploit these resources for the greater good of our society.

Wek further pledged to offer support at the capacity of the State Government in order to improve the learning conditions at Makerdit Primary School.

In regard to bringing peace, the governor called on the learners to pray for him as he embarked on a peace mission.

“I am on a peace mission. Pray for me to succeed in ending communal conflicts in Warrap State because I am saddened by information that even school-going children who are our future are directly affected,” he said.

Recently the government of Warrap State resolved to temporarily relocate to Greater Tonj following violence, which resulted in the deaths of more than eight people.

Mamer Bath Marol, the Warrap State Minister of Information, stated that the state government has decided to move its seat to Greater Tonj to address the rising insecurity.

“As an assurance to the public, the state government is now relocating its seat to the scene of the violence as an alternative approach,” Marol said in a statement issued on Monday.

Marol added that the state government will continue to operate in the area until a permanent solution to the recurring violence is found and addressed.
