President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged the new Justices to become defenders of fairness, equality, and the rights of the people.
Speaking yesterday during a swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court, Kiir entrusted them with the vital responsibility of strengthening an independent judiciary aligned with the national peace and stability agenda.
“Their conduct,” the President stated, “must reflect the dignity and integrity of the office they now hold,” a statement from presidential Press Unit, noted
President Kiir emphasized the appointment was not merely a promotion but a renewed expression of trust and commitment to the principles of justice.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary to ensure it performed its duties effectively, independently, and in service of the people.
According to the statement, Chief Justice Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng, while addressing the gathering, aligned with the President’s call for judicial integrity.
The Chief Justice pledged to prioritize clearing the backlog of court cases, noting that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
The swearing-in of the new Justices comes at a critical time for South Sudan, as the country continues to navigate its transitional period.
