Parties to peace agreement exhibit teamwork

By Alan Clement

Political Parties signatories to the 2018 peace agreement have exhibited unity in Central Equatoria State, under leadership of governor, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel.

The Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) was signed by many parties that later formed a government.

Among them are the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army–In Opposition (SPLM/A–IO), the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Former Detainees (FDs), and Other Political Parties (OPP).

In line with teamwork and consultative leadership, members from Other Political Parties (OPP) in Central Equatoria State on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the governor.

Governor Mujung stated that unity among peace partners is not just a moral obligation but rather a legal and necessary political element in implementing the provisions of the peace agreement.

“Achieving and restoring peace and governance requires the collective efforts of peace partners,” the governor told the visiting delegation led by Deputy Governor and OPP State leader Paulino Lukudu Obede, noting that such cooperation is essential for the successful implementation of the peace agreement.

Mujung also praised the gesture by OPP, describing it as a positive step in political inclusiveness, which is a cornerstone of the R-ARCSS, particularly Chapter I, which outlines the power-sharing arrangement among the parties.

Speaking on behalf of the OPP, Obede reaffirmed their commitment to the full implementation of the peace accord, including peace, unity, and security arrangements.

“The OPP remains a committed partner in this peace process. We affirm our readiness to contribute to delivering peace, stability, and essential services to the people of Central Equatoria,” Obede stated.

Such engagements signal a growing cooperation among transitional government stakeholders as South Sudan gears up for elections and are critical in reinforcing the provisions in chapter VI of the R-ARCSS, which emphasizes the role of institutions and political dialogue in consolidating peace.
