Declaration of extension of the tenure of the Transition of Government of National Unity, on Friday, last week did not come as a surprise but confirmation of speculations and anticipations.

Signs of impossibility of conducting elections to end the transition period were clearly written in the sky that citizens only expected the stand of the Presidency.

As the first extension never achieved its objective, the parties signatory to the Revitalized Agreement must ensure that the two years do not elapse without positive results, otherwise, citizens’ hope ebbs on the handlers.

Whereas the first extension was characterized by catastrophes of floods, hunger, inflation and salary delays. These calamitous incidences must be mitigated to relieve citizens from trauma.

Citizens have vested so much hope in the signatories to the Revitalized Peace Agreement to steer the country through the storm to a clear landing without crash but the unending journey exhausts those on board.

It becomes a disservice to the people who have given their consent to be led, when a new breed of democracy of “two years’ extension” without elections, gives birth in the youngest African country.

As the presidency quickly fixed the expiry of the transition period by extension, could somebody, tackle the economic crises and salary twists, to make the extension better than the past?
