Government of Eastern Equatoria State has denounced rumors circulating within the Torit Municipal Council of its alleged involvement in the selling of land to individuals.
In a statement to No. 1Citizen Newspaper, Press Secretary Oringa Geoffrey condemned the rumors in the strongest terms, asserting that they are intended to undermine the legacy of the state government.
He said the state governor has no involvement with any land sales within Torit Municipality.
Mr. Oringa explained that specific institutions are mandated to manage land issues, operating without fear or favouritism.
Describing the rumors as “defamation of the highest order,” Oringa accused a small group of politicians of spreading misinformation to mislead the communities of Eastern Equatoria.
He said the claims are fabricated by a few politicians aiming to tarnish the reputation of the government and sow discord among the community.
Mayor Mustafa Albino Zachariah of Torit Municipality acknowledged that they have been summoned by the governor to address the rising rumors that threaten to distort the name of Governor Louis Lobong Lojore.
He lamented that the unfounded allegations stem from certain state politicians harbouring negative sentiments toward the government.
Mayor Mustafa refuted the baseless claims, stating lack of evidence supporting the accusations.
He noted that there is currently no land distribution among stakeholders or the local population happening in the town.
The Mayor noted that the Eastern Equatoria government remains committed to transparency and integrity, and serve the best interests of its communities.
