Nation Talks

Youth, be creative to face the financial situation in the country.

Dropping out of school can affect both young girls and boys, whether because their parents are unable to pay their school fees due to poverty or due to gender discrimination, including early pregnancy, which sometimes hinders youth in their future direction.

Again, serious people may not see these factors as signs of failure because many hand-created jobs can help youths reach their target goals. The question is, why should youth only rely on gambling jobs that lead them to theft? After failing to continue school, fight for your rights and do something to achieve your dreams, whether you want to be a doctor, teacher, or anything else. Work hard to avoid becoming beggars dependent on others who struggle for their futures.

In today’s world, there are no clearly defined good-paying and bad-paying jobs; success is about your commitment to making your situation better. Be proactive, encourage yourself, and inspire others in jobs that will allow you to earn a living. For example, you can work in a hotel, as a market vendor, or in other businesses. Ladies shouldn’t be ashamed of doing any petty job; the world is expanding, unlike in our mothers’ time. Earn to survive, taking inspiration from our neighboring countries, such as Kenya and Uganda. These countries believe in progressing their lives and do not fear doing anything. In Nairobi and Uganda, there are people with master’s degrees selling newspapers, cleaning roads, and working as security guards, which is not the culture in South Sudan. They dress very smartly in the morning.

South Sudanese often believe in extravagant jobs, big dreams, and holding first-class degrees, while relying on their uncles who are generals in the army or those with better jobs. You often find households with more than 20 jobless people claiming to be looking for jobs despite their poor results. Our young girls who drop out of school often cannot think of the next steps they can take to help themselves. The question is, what will you do in the absence of someone helping you? Start from somewhere before securing a better job. Don’t be ashamed of doing petty work that earns a living, and don’t fall into the frustration of drinking.

I appeal to all youth of both genders to work hard for their futures and to overcome dependency.

God protect South Sudan!
Be the spectator!
