After receiving Mobile Testing Machine for COVID-19, Nimule Hospital, in Eastern Equatoria State, registered a total of 285 tests since early July,10 of whom are positive.

Last month, the National Ministry of Health donated Mobile Testing Machine for COVID-19 and other diseases, including of Yellow Fever, at Nimule Hospital.

According to the Medical Director, Dr. Nyuma Silvestor, out of the tests conducted for COVID-19, ten results returned positive.

Dr. Nyuma says the hospital at the moment is testing samples manually with about 90 tests performed on daily basis.

He says if testing is done automatically, more than 90 samples can be tested in a single day.

The Medical Director revealed that the ten positive cases of COVID-19 included three truck drivers from Uganda, five health workers from Nimule Hospital, one health worker from Melijio Internally Displaced Persons’ Camp, and one community member.

He says patients of coronavirus in Nimule are isolated at their respective homes and show no symptoms, and that the health workers have advised them accordingly to help them recover.

“The contact tracing team continues to check their condition, such that they can quickly be assisted in case of any complication,” explained Dr. Nyuma.

However, the medical director complains that the personal protection equipment is scarce, and as such the health workers are exposed to risk of getting infected with the coronavirus.

He encourages the public and health workers to practice the prevention measures to protect them from getting infected with the virus.
