Yei locals urged to report offences committed by soldiers

The SSPDF Director of Civil military relation and public information Lt. Col. Michael Machar in Yei is calling on the locals in Yei River County to report cases involving military personnel as the advance team of the mobile court martial.

The military court martial is set to reach Yei for the conviction of military personnel involved in criminal activities on Thursday next week.

Lt. Col. Machar said that the journey to Yei will start with an advanced team departing from Juba to pave way for general military court martial that will take place in Yei military garrison.

In addition, he said that the second team comprising the judges will reach Yei later to sentence the 16 SSPDF soldiers who had gotten involved in the looting of civilian properties and murder of two civilians at Abegi.

“All those who have cases related to the military whether of that nature, you need to prepare yourself because there will be a hearing and trial of these cases as soon as the general team arrive in the day,” he said.

Earlier, the commissioner of Yei River County, Aggrey Crus said 14 military personnel belonging to SSPDF had looted the properties from Abegi in Yei County and the other two were accused for murder of civilian in Abegi.

He said that on the 12th April, 2022, the team that was supposed to travel faced some logistical challenges and would be able to reach Yei after the Easter break.
